Sexism has been a problem throughout history. Women were used as slaves and concubines in biblical times. In more recent times, women were expected to look and act like trophies in public. The beliefs or stereotypes that a woman’s place is in the home, that a woman belongs barefoot and in the kitchen, that a woman is around just to provide sexual gratification for a man… were all perpetuated by the media’s portrayal of women.

And, just in case you thought those were bad, the ads from 2007 were horrific, specifically for perfume. In one ad, it almost looks like a sexual assault with the woman under the man on a floor with her arm looking like it is trying to push him off. The other looks as if it is a simulated "gang rape." how can ads like these not perpetuate violence against women? Another portrays a woman in a seemingly sexual act with perfume bottles. Those Tom Ford ads were too graphic to link or show here.
